| Summerlin Community |
Summerlin is a 22,500 acre master-planned community where families of all sizes and incomes are at home. Unfolding along the western rim of the Las Vegas Valley in the shadow of the Spring Mountain Range and Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, Summerlin is as well known for the splendor of its natural surroundings as it is for the beauty of its streets, parks and neighborhoods.
Lifestyle
Summerlin delivers an incomparable lifestyle and quality of life for its residents. An abundance of parks, trails and golf courses come together with exceptional schools, houses of worship, cultural facilities, shopping centers, business parks and medical facilities along with over 150 model homes built by 15 home builders to create a self-contained community unlike any other in Southern Nevada. Once you’ve experienced Summerlin, it’s easy to understand why the community has ranked as America’s best-selling master-planned community ten of the past eleven years.
Recreation
There are so many recreational opportunities in Summerlin, the biggest challenge involves deciding what to do first. The expansive trail system will eventually extend over 150 miles, and Summerlin’s parks and playing fields (golf, soccer, baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball, tennis, etc.) are incredibly popular.
More than 30 percent of Summerlin has been designated as community space including passive and active parks, trails, recreational facilities, golf courses, the Summerlin Trail System, landscaped areas and natural preserved areas. For a community the size of Summerlin, that’s a lot of room to breathe and play.
Of Summerlin’s community space, almost 20 percent of the community is designated as irrigated open space which includes parks, trails and golf courses, and approximately 15 percent of the community is dedicated to the preservation of natural areas such as washes, arroyos and desert canyons. Some of these areas may ultimately be owned by others such as the Bureau of Land Management.
Education
Summerlin offers its residents more educational choices than any other community in Las Vegas with eight private schools and nine public schools. Summerlin schools provide a full range of close-to-home educational choices for preschool/kindergarten through high school.
In all cases, zoning and building decisions for public schools in Summerlin are made by the Clark County School District (CCSD). That's why The Howard Hughes Corporation, Summerlin's developer, works diligently with CCSD to facilitate the siting and development of public schools to meet the community's unprecedented growth. At the same time, The Howard Hughes Corporation is constantly seeking a wide variety of private educational partners who can provide the community with an abundance of quality private educational opportunities.

Culture
Culture is alive and well in Summerlin. Together, the Summerlin Library and Performing Arts Center and the Donald W. Reynolds Cultural Center, home of Nevada Ballet Theatre, serve as the cultural cornerstone of this master planned community. Summerlin is one of the few communities in the country that is home to professional regional dance troupes and a performing arts center.
Both the Summerlin Library and the Donald W. Reynolds Cultural Center are distinctive for their architecture as well as their programming. The library, designed by Robert Fielden, was the recipient of the 1994 Pacific Coast Builders Conference Gold Nugget Award as the best public/private special use facility. The dance center, designed by Tom Schoeman, features a strikingly unique curved linear shape. A ballet barre runs along the outside wall of the building adding to its architectural interest.
The classical bronze dance sculptures by Mario Jason that grace the foyer and entrance to the dance center are in good company with Rita Deanin Abbey’s massive contemporary bronze sculpture that stands at the entrance to the Summerlin Library and Performing Arts Center.
Healthy Living
Summerlin is the natural choice for healthy living because it offers so many activity-related options. The expansive Summerlin Trail System will eventually extend over 150 miles and runs through preserved parkland in every one of our villages, and Summerlin’s parks and playing fields (golf, soccer, softball, volleyball, T-ball and children’s play areas) are incredibly popular.
Summerlin residents seem to share an inclination toward healthier lifestyles and this active way of life is reflected in the programming and events sponsored by the Summerlin Council. Stop by The Gardens, The Trails or The Willows Community Center and check into the clubs and events they offer that are guaranteed to make your heart beat a little faster.
Community wellness is also a focus of the programs, classes and support groups offered through the Summerlin Hospital Medical Center: prenatal and postnatal classes and support groups; cancer seminars, support groups and a cancer information database; CPR and first aid classes and more. The Senior Advantage Program, a free benefit program for adults 50 and over, offers seminars and health fairs, a health information library that includes videos and printed material and free blood pressure screenings.
Summerlin residents never have to go far to seek professional medical attention. Over 200 physicians now practice in Summerlin, including board-certified M.D.s in more than 20 specialties. The Pueblo Medical Center and Summerlin Hospital Medical Center are just minutes away from any Summerlin village, and both offer residents convenient diagnostic and surgical facilities. Together, they provide two urgent care centers, diagnostics and a cancer and breast cancer center with acute, sub-acute and rehabilitative services. These two close-to-home facilities are able to provide complete attention to your health as well as education about maintaining it.
Shopping
Retail centers are conveniently located throughout Summerlin. Several community and neighborhood shopping centers offer grocery and drug stores, entertainment, personal services, restaurants (for your epicurean exploration) and an ever-increasing variety of retail options. Wherever you live in Summerlin, they're all only minutes away from home.
