Clark County's population growth slowed from from 5.2% in 2006 to 2.7% in 2007.
This slow growth caught even experts off guard. Jeremy Arguero, Applied Analysis, said he'd been expecting a more modest growth in population. He hadn't expectd growth to slide below 3%. Arguero questioned whether the local economy built on growth could adapt to the slower growth.
Keith Schwer, Director of the Center of Business and Economic Research at UNLV is unsure if the loss of residents is merely a blip or a start of trend. With the huge amount of development on the Strip, Schwer anticipates that there will be a population hike in 2009. Another 50,000 jobs will be created as the building projects approach completion.
