9 new residents each hour, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for the past 10 years! That's how many new residents move into Clark County (Las Vegas). That equated to about 77,000 new residents each yuear. By many estimates, Las Vegas will top 2 million in population by 2008.
Las Vegas is growing for many reasons. First, Vegas has a large and growing job market. New jobs attract new residents. A booming tourism industry, never-ending construction projects, expanding government offices, new industry brings job growth exceeding the national average.
Second, Vegas is located in the Sun Belt. People from the North, East and the Rust Belt seek to live in a warm, dry climate. Lots of sun, about 345 days a year are sunny.
Third, Vegas has entertainment. Las Vegas is the most exciting city in the world! Las Vegas will become the model city of the future. Residents want a variety of entertainment, night life, great places to eat, and gaming. Residents want places to have fun. Las Vegas is not just for tourists!
Fourth, Las Vegas gets lots of publicity. Vegas gets huge media exposure on TV, movies, travel channels, poker tournament, night club, restaurant reviews, famous people sightings, grand new entreprenurial projects and more! This makes news in so many ways and this in turn influences many prosepctive residents.
Fifth, Nevada has an attractive tax structure. Nevada has no personal income tax, excise tax, inheritance tax, or corporate tax. Nevada has no reciprocity with the IRS.
Sixth, Las Vegas lacks buildable land. Our city is located in a valley surrounded by mountains, federal land, Lake Mead, national preserves, Indian reservations and Nellis Air Force Base. Even though Vegas is in the middle of a vast desert, not much land is available to buy. And if you could buy it, water, sewer, electricity may not be available. Each new house built eats up the available land and drives the prices ever higher.
